Aquarium of Niagara
On April 24, 2010 Our Brownie Troop Stayed at the Holiday Inn on Grand Island. We had a blast! We enjoyed an evening of looking over the balcony, swimming in the pool, soaking in the Hot Tub, and drying off in the sauna! Then back to our rooms to put on the PJ’s and eat Pizza!
The next morning (after not such a great night of sleep) we left to visit the Aquarium of Niagara. Here we met 2 Californian Sea-Lions named Chester and Squirt! Boy did they give us a show that we will all remember. We enjoyed watching the feeding of some finicky Penguins, and observing the Sharks, Octopus and other aquatic life swim by. Just like our WOW journey with the Brownie Elves down in the submarine, we were able to see Ocean plant life and other amazing creature in the oceans and lakes! What an amazing journey this was!
We also learned that we all should do our part to Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce! You know “…Use resources wisely”. We learned this from our journey in our WOW book but learned even more reasons why from our aquarium visit. Like...Do you know what a Gyre is?
We learned about a gyre. A gyre is any large system of rotating ocean currents. Garbage is dumped and swept into these gyres every day. This causes harm to all ocean life. By Recycling, Reducing, and Reusing we help to reduce pollutant in our water, which in return helps our oceans to flourish with life. This includes plant life. If you would take all 5 of the gyres in our Oceans and put them together it would make up ¼ of our earths surface. Now, picture that ¼ or 25% of the Earths surface filled with garbage. Not very nice!
